Approximately three hundred years ago, a new species of people arose. This species was "the hybrids." Hybrids would have animal-like characteristics which varied in intensity. From a snake hybrid simply having a few scales to a wolf hybrid having ears and a fluffy-looking tail.
With the hybrids came three social classes: alpha, beta, and omega. Three hundred years later, they are an important part of society, and it's more common to see people with animal characteristics than without. The only time you'll see someone with no animal characteristics at all is when they are of the beta class. However, many beta class individuals still have animal characteristics.
It's typically accepted socially that an alpha and omega will pair and two betas will pair. Betas themselves are the most populous of the three classes, and many workplaces find them to be most desirable. They do not experience heat like an omega, but they also are not as affected by an omega's heat as an alpha is. While betas certainly are affected, it is not to the extent that an alpha is. When it comes to reproducing, the only males that can get pregnant are omega ranks. It's extremely difficult for beta males to impregnate an omega, but it is possible, especially if it happens during an omega's heat. Any unprotected sex during an omega's heat almost always ends in pregnancy. For females, they are able to get pregnant no matter the rank. Because of this, female alphas are often desired for families that want to lessen the chance of having a child with a rank below alpha.
“Welcome to Pyeongdeung, a city like no other!”
Pyeongdeung was established approximately fifty years ago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean to serve as a shining beacon of hope between the three classes. It was established on an artificial island created by the countries of the world as an “independent utopia” which would welcome all, no matter nationality, gender, hybrid status, or gender, so long as they had a clean criminal record and no debts. It was meant to be a place where all three classes would have equal opportunities and chances at a good life.
Of course, we all know this is far from true. Most jobs find ways to prevent omegas from working for them, the most popular of which is a 90-day probationary period where no days can be missed. Additionally, omegas within the city still have no access to suppressants since they are outlawed in the majority of countries, which does include South Korea. It is almost impossible for omegas to get accepted into the local university, and almost all of them will be rejected from fields such as medicine and science. The city actually has only ever accepted one omega onto its police force, and you can bet he gets the worst jobs. Many omegas take fate into their own hands, working underground as doctors and idols. Most companies won't hire omegas to be idols, since it's too difficult to get suppressants without the media finding out. they're typically limited to work as models and actors. if an omega wants to work as an idol, they have to do it independently and hope to succeed.
